Trump to lead Gaza’s interim government!

U.S. President Donald Trump has unveiled a 20-point plan to halt Israeli aggression in the besieged Gaza Strip and establish an interim administration to govern the territory, officials said Monday, September 29. ([Al Jazeera][1])

Under the proposal, an interim governing body made up of the United States, European countries and Arab states would administer Gaza, with Trump positioned as the lead figure overseeing the arrangement. The plan states that Gaza’s residents would remain in place and would not be forcibly displaced; Israel would not occupy the enclave and Gaza would be rebuilt. ([CBS News][2])

If both parties accept the proposal, the agreement says the war would end immediately. As an initial step, Israeli forces would carry out a “general withdrawal,” and all Israeli hostages would be released within 72 hours; in return, Israel would release a number of Palestinian detainees.

The plan calls for the full demilitarization of Hamas and the destruction of its infrastructure — including tunnels — with assistance from Arab states. Trump warned that if Arab countries fail to help, Israel would assume responsibility itself. He also said the U.S. would fully back efforts to neutralize Hamas, and warned that if Hamas rejects the proposal or attempts to rebuild militarily, Israel would take action to eliminate it. Trump reportedly discussed the plan with several Muslim leaders during a meeting held on the sidelines of a recent U.N. General Assembly session; the White House later released the plan at a joint press event with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who expressed his support. The proposal has been transmitted to mediators, but Hamas has not publicly accepted it. ([Al Jazeera][4])
